The present study aimed to study the influence of the economic crisis on the operation of the private fitness clubs in Greece. The sample of the study consisted of 50 fitness clubs in Thessaloniki, Greece. The results showed that almost half of the fitness clubs reported a reduction in the number of their members, while almost 1/3 reported an increase in the number of their members. The vast majority of the owners of the clubs reported reductions in their annual profit due to the reduction in the price of the annual memberships and the increased taxes. It is optimistic that the majority of the owners of the clubs view the future of the fitness industry in Greece growing.
