Organizing major sporting events such as the Olympic Games play a central role in the growth prospects of the host city and hence the country as a tourist destination. Hosting Olympic Games can cause positive shifts in tourism demand on a long-term basis, but the additional revenues might not counterbalance the investment costs that are required of the host city. The aim of the present study was to present the tourism impacts of the Sydney, Athens, Beijing and London Olympic Games. Furthermore, research aims to provide leverage strategies for effective exploitation of the potential benefits of tourism derived from the organization of major sporting events like the Olympic Games for the host city, which should be implemented in order to increase economic and social value to the community and achieve sustainability of these sporting events. The research will present and explain strategies of Olympic Games leveraging such as: (a) Positioning the host city as tourism destination in the market, (b) Stimulating Visitor Spending, (c) Lengthen visitor stays, (d) Enhance business relationships, (e) Showcase via Olympic Games advertising and reporting, (f) Use the Olympic Games in advertising and promotions
